Lifeguards recovered her body at Manhattan Beach in South Brooklyn, police say.

A 55-year-old woman was declared dead after lifeguards pulled her from the water at a Brooklyn beach Monday night, police said.
NYPD officials said the woman was unconscious and unresponsive when she was recovered from the ocean at Manhattan Beach near Oriental Boulevard in South Brooklyn around 6:15 p.m. First responders took her to South Brooklyn Health hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The city Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was working to determine exactly how she died, police said. She was not immediately identified.
If her death is determined to be a drowning, the woman would become at least the fourth person to drown at a New York City beach so far this year, according to authorities.
An 18-year-old man drowned near the Coney Island Boardwalk last week, the NYPD said. In late July, a 22-year-old man went missing off Rockaway Beach. And in April, a surfer died at Jacob Riis Park in Queens.
Seven people drowned at city beaches last year through mid-August, the most such drownings since 2019, Gothamist previously reported.
Lifeguards are typically on duty from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at city beaches, and swimming is prohibited outside of those hours. Beaches will be open through Sept. 7.
