When It Comes Parking Prices, NYC Is #1 And #2!

When it comes to monthly parking New York City's business districts come in on top. Yay?

Parking in midtown is much easier at night

Not only does Manhattan have a glut of ghost apartments, it also has the most expensive parking in the country. And we aren't talking about bike parking (though probably that, too). A new report by Colliers International finds that New York's two central business districts are far more expensive to park in than their closest rival, Boston. Uh, huzzah?

During the month of June the median monthly rate to park in midtown was $541 and downtown it was $533. In Boston that would cost you $155.22 for a monthly spot. And though the average parking rates across the country stayed pretty much flat since 2010, here it went up .6 percent in midtown and .8 percent downtown (or about $3 and $2 more per month, respectively).

And it isn't just in monthly parking where we, uh, win. Midtown takes the cake with the highest median daily parking rates ($41) as well. Downtown, however, ties with LA for the fourth-highest prices ($30) but we're sure that increased development down there will fix that up quick.

Meanwhile, it could be worse! You could be parking abroad. Like in London, where a monthly spot can cost more than $1,000, or Zurich, where it would run you $822 or so. Even Perth, Australia, has higher monthly parking rates in its business district. It costs an estimated $717 to park down under.

Good thing we're getting all those new bike lanes!
