Video Shows Man Cutting Through Sleeping L Train Rider's Pants To Remove Cell Phone And Credit Cards

A man who fell asleep on an L train last week woke up to find that his phone and credits cards had been stolen—because someone cut through his pocket. A video of the grand larceny, below, subsequently circulated on social media.
According to the NYPD, the incident occurred around 2:12 a.m. on June 12th, on a Canarsie-bound L train. A 28-year-old man fell asleep as the train headed towards Atlantic Avenue, and the suspect, police say, "cut the victim's pants, removing his cell phone and credit cards." The suspect then fled to another part of the train.
Apparently two unauthorized transactions totaling $68 were made on the credit cards.
A few years ago, there was a rise in the number of robberies involving sleeping subway riders, prompting then-NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton to ask police officers assigned to the subways to wake up sleeping passengers.
