There are apartments above the business, but no tenants were home at the time of the crash.
The car's driver reportedly tried to flee after the crash. PIX 11 reports, "Moments later, the man climbed out of the rubble and allegedly tried to run away from the scene, but was apprehended by neighborhood patrol members until police took him in custody," witnesses said.
The driver is being "held on suspicion of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of the accident," WABC 7 reports.
Due to a partial structural collapse in Brooklyn, Avenue P is closed between East 4th Street and Ocean Parkway. In addition, East 5th Street is closed between Avenue P and Quentin Road. Expect extensive traffic delays and allow for additional travel time.
