[UPDATE BELOW] A 36-year-old woman is clinging to life after getting stabbed in Queens Village early this morning. An FDNY spokesman tells us a 911 call came through shortly after 1 a.m., and the victim was rushed to North Shore University Hospital. At the time she was admitted, she was expected to survive, but there are conflicting reports about the 221st Street stabbing in the press.
An NYPD spokesman would only confirm that the woman was stabbed, but declined to provide further information because the press office is still gathering details from the precinct. At this time it does not appear the perpetrator was apprehended.
Most media outlets are reporting that the stabbing happened later in the morning, closer to 5 a.m. NBC New York reports that the woman, "who worked as a home health aide in Brooklyn, was attacked at about 5 a.m." A police source tells NBC that investigators are looking at robbery as a motive. According to ABC 7, she was stabbed multiple times in the neck and torso, and is in "extremely critical condition."
We'll update as more information becomes available.
Update 3:01 p.m.: The victim has been identified as Kerline Denizard, and police sources tell CBS 2 the 36-year-old woman "was slashed across the throat and arms and stabbed in the back before a passing motorist scared the attacker away." The victim's sister said Denizard had recently told her she was being harassed and followed.
Family members tell the Daily News that Denizard was leaving for her job as a home health care aide (she works with disabled children) at 4:45 a.m. when she was attacked steps from her car. A man whom police describe as a 6-foot, 5-inch black man wearing a black hoodie stabbed her repeatedly and then ran off, taking nothing.
"She's having surgery, so we'll have to wait and see," said Denizard’s cousin Hans Cadet, tells the News.
