UPDATE: Second Man Hit By Train At Same Subway Station At West 72nd St

[Update Below] A man has been hit by a train at the 72nd Street and Broadway subway station—the same station where a man jumped in front of a train early this morning during rush hour. According to the FDNY, the man was struck by a 2 train at 11:56 a.m.; he was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in stable condition. Power has been removed from the tracks; the 2 and 3 trains are now running local between the Times Square Station-42nd Street Station to the 96th Street Station in both directions, and MTA advises people to expect delays for both trains.

Just before 8 a.m., a man was struck by a northbound 1 train; police told us he was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital in critical condition. Full service had been restored as of 10:38 a.m., according to the MTA web site. We'll update as we learn more information.

Update: Umbrella seller Kevin Duke, who was outside the station when the incident occurred, told us: "I saw them pick the guy up. It was a white guy in his 40s. He was wearing a business suit. I couldn't see any injuries." An MTA worker who didn't witness the accident but was familiar with the details, added: "He was on the track; I think he was trying to retrieve something. This guy was really lucky, only his legs got messed up. He rolled off the tracks and got most of his body out of the way."

The second victim is in stable condition, but the FDNY told us that the first victim—who jumped in front of a northbound 1 train this morning—was DOA at the scene.

Update: According to West Side Rag, the second victim is a 33-year-old white male. They say he was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital on 114th Street and is listed in stable condition. A source told them that the person may have been intoxicated.

They add that the first victim was a 62-year-old Hispanic man, and he was pronounced DOA when he arrived at the hospital earlier this morning.
