[UPDATE] Delays In & Out Of Penn After LIRR Service Suspension

April 9, 2015, 4:35 p.m.

Police are reportedly closing the gates to keep the station from overcrowding.

[UPDATE BELOW] Service on the Long Island Railroad has been suspended in both directions between Penn Station and Jamaica after a person fell onto the tracks, according to the FDNY.

A spokesperson from the FDNY tells us that officials were called to Penn Station at around 3:37 p.m. today after reports of a person on the tracks; the individual has since been removed, but has not been transported to a hospital. The FDNY was unable to comment on his or her condition or disclose any further detail, though the LIRR's official Twitter account claims the victim was struck by a train.

Trains are getting canceled left and right, and Penn Station is reportedly so packed with people trying to get home that transit cops have restricted access to the area.

LIRR officials are advising individuals to stay out of Penn Station until service resumes.

The MTA has not yet responded to request for comment. We will update when more information becomes available.

Update 5:11 p.m.: Limited eastbound service has since been restored, but commuters can expect delays. Cops are no longer restricting access into the station.
