Two people were killed in a crash on Sunday morning, both riding what appeared to be a motorcycle or scooter, according to police.

NYPD officials said the driver of an SUV collided with a man and woman both riding the same, two-wheeled vehicle at East 106th Street and 3rd Avenue.

The man and woman were declared dead. The driver was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

An investigation is ongoing, and there have been no arrests. NYPD said it is waiting to release the identities of the man and woman killed until their families have been notified.

The street safety advocacy group Transportation Alternatives said there has been a surge in traffic-related fatalities this year, putting it on track to become the deadliest year for crashes in a decade.
