The driver of an SUV crashed into two pedestrians on the Upper West Side on Friday, causing head trauma to both victims and leaving one in critical condition, according to officials.

The driver of an SUV crashed into two pedestrians on the Upper West Side on Friday afternoon, causing head trauma to both victims and leaving one in critical condition, according to officials.
A 65-year-old woman and a man in his 50s were struck at West 98th Street just before 3:30 p.m., police said, as the driver was traveling north on West End Avenue. Both victims were sent to St. Luke's Hospital with head and face trauma.
An eyewitness told NY1 that they witnessed an "elderly woman flying through [the] air and dentures on the street. She said the victims looked like they were in terrible condition."

A spokesperson for the FDNY said that one of the pedestrians was "likely to die"—but could not provide additional details. The NYPD said the driver was not immediately issued any summonses. An investigation is ongoing.
Total traffic fatalities on New York City streets are up more than 15 percent compared to this time last year, according to city data.
