See The MTA's New Pride Logo On The 1 Train (And Get Your WorldPride MetroCard While Supplies Last)

If you rely on the NYC Transit's Twitter (it's hot car season, everyone!), you may have noticed that NYC Transit's avatar, as well as the MTA's, have changed to a rainbow heart made of up of subway lines. But it's not just for social media; the pride design can also be seen IRL, adorning some 1 train cars.

The MTA's outdoor company, Outfront Media, paid for the printing and installation of MTA Pride logos on the sides of five 10-car trains along the 1 line (it's the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Inn uprising). The logo was produced in-house at the MTA.

The MTA's celebration of pride doesn't stop there: There are also two new MetroCard designs, using logos from NY State and NYC tourism agencies, that have calendars of selected WorldPride 2019 events. The 500,000 WorldPride MetroCards can be found at these subway stations, from station agents or MetroCard vending machines (but not the credit/debit-only machine): Christopher St-Sheridan Sq; Atlantic Av-Barclays Center; Roosevelt Av-Jackson Heights; 50 St; 34 St-Hudson Yards; 34 St-Penn Station (1/2/3 and A/C/E); 34 St-Herald Sq; Grand Central-42 St; Times Sq-42 St; 28 St (1); 23 St (C, E); 23 St (1); 23 St (R/W); 18 St; 14 St (1/2/3); 14 St-Union Sq; 14 St (F/M); and W 4 St.

(FWIW, these WorldPride MetroCards were produced at no extra cost and, like other MetroCard promotions, you can swap out a branded MetroCard for a regular one at a station agent booth.)

"The MTA celebrates diversity and inclusivity, and we're incredibly proud to mark the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising and the WorldPride events in our service area with our special Pride trains, and limited-edition MetroCards and merchandise," MTA spokesman Shams Tarek told us.

Yes, there's also merch, available online and at Transit Museum stores: There are T-shirts, cooling bandannas, mugs, drawstring backpacks, stickers and magnets. The MTA says they may produce more items and may offer them year-round, depending on demand.
