Remembering Hurricane Sandy: The Ravaged Jersey Shore

Today we're taking a look back at some of our coverage of Hurricane Sandy from last year. Here's our look at damage to the Jersey Shore where rebuilding continues (the Seaside Heights roller coaster was eventually demolished).

As badly as New York City was hit by Hurricane Sandy, New Jersey was directly in its path when it made landfall, with 20-foot surfs. It is, in the opinion of the NJ state climatologist David Robinson "what we feared. I’m stretching to find a case where this storm could have been worse. Everything is unprecedented. I can reel off a long list of horrible storms, but I can’t think of any worse than this."

Many towns are without power or running water, there are reports of gas price gouging, and much of NJ's famous and beloved shoreline is destroyed. NJ Governor Chris Christie, who officially cancelled Halloween, promised residents that they "will rebuild," and has been trying to comfort residents.
