Police searching for information on Bushwick hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian

Police were looking on Monday for the driver of a car that struck and dragged a 47-year-old man on a Brooklyn street over the weekend, killing him.

Officers found the man critically injured near the intersection of Broadway and Suydam Street in Bushwick around 3:45 a.m. Saturday, police said. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

Detectives from the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that he was hit by an vehicle traveling northbound on Broadway, and dragged more than 50 feet. Police said they were seeking information about the car or its driver.

Officials said it was not immediately clear whether the man was walking in a crosswalk, or who had the right of way. His identity was not released as police worked to notify his family.

Brooklyn has the highest number of pedestrians injured in traffic collisions so far this year compared to the other boroughs, according to the latest available NYPD data. A total of 228 pedestrians were hurt through June, and two were killed.

Queens had the second-highest total, with 157 injured and three killed, then Manhattan with 123 injured and two killed. The Bronx had 97 injuries through June with no fatalities, and Staten Island had 19 injuries with no fatalities, according to the NYPD.
