NYPD Investigating 'Suspicious Device' Found On Man Struck By Subway In Queens

The NYPD Bomb Squad is investigating a possible explosive device found in the backpack of a man who was struck by a subway in Queens earlier this morning.

According to police, the man jumped in front of a northbound A train at the 80th Street station in Ozone Park at around 6:45 a.m. He was rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where he is currently in critical condition.
First responders also discovered a backpack in the person's vicinity, which police say contained a "suspicious device." A spokesperson for the NYPD told Gothamist that the device "is being looked at by our bomb squad and emergency services to determine what it is."
A train service is currently suspended between Euclid Avenue and Lefferts Blvd/Howard Beach. For alternate service, the MTA recommends taking the Q8 and Q24 buses, or the crosstown Q10 and Q37 to the J/Z line.

UPDATE: The package has been deemed safe by the NYPD's Bomb Squad. Service between Euclid Avenue and Lefferts Blvd/Howard Beach remains suspended.
