The FDNY tells us the freight train derailed at around 10:05 this morning, at Garrison Avenue and Longwood Avenue. No injuries have been reported, but service is temporarily suspended between New York and Connecticut. Amtrak is encouraging riders to take Metro-North instead.

Riders currently onboard trains in the region are, unsurprisingly, delayed.
Finally got an announcement on my Amtrak train. 'Lengthy delay' likely, conductor said it was a CSX derailment, but nothing beyond that.

About 20 miles outside of NYC, and a freight train ahead of us derailed on a bridge. Indefinite delay in New Rochelle. Oh, @Amtrak.

NBC reports that eight of the freight train's cars derailed. Thankfully no hazardous materials were spilled in the incident.
It's unclear when service will return but check back for updates.
