PATH train service is staggering back to life at 5:45 p.m. with residual delays, following an earlier "air compressor failure," according to the Port Authority.

The system-wide service shutdown was announced by the Port Authority at around 4 p.m. on Thursday. The problems were initially blamed on a signal failure, but the agency later clarified it was the result of some sort of air pressure malfunction.

Whatever the cause, severe crowding conditions are developing at the World Trade Center, after officials apparently locked the turnstiles.

Those who were planning on boat-commuting may also be in for bad news.

Uber will not save you.

And a standard heaping of MTA dysfunction isn't helping matters.

New Jersey Transit will continue to cross-honor all PATH passengers until further notice.

Good luck out there.
