The Mets are on a hot streak: The team just had its first no-hitter ever, they will host the 2013 All-Star Game and they are tied for first place in the NL East. And now it's just been revealed that provocative political comedian Bill Maher is a minority owner! New rule: When Mr. Met shoots t-shirts at fans, the t-shirts need to say how the Democrats don't have any ideas.

With principal owners Fred Wilpon and Saul Katz bruised after fallout from their investments with Bernard Madoff, the team had offered minority ownership stakes in the franchise for $20 million a piece. Maher says he's been a minority owner for months, "I think people sometimes forget there's only one National League franchise in New York City, and they're not making anymore. I think it’s a great investment. I just thought it would be a great place, especially after I’ve seen some of the ways money can disappear in recent years. I had my money in Lehman Brothers in 2008."

Maher further explained, "I read about it in the paper in December. There was an article in the newspaper saying the Mets, you know, this was available. You could buy these limited partnerships," and joked, "My role is to bring luck to the team like I did this weekend. Let's be honest, they did not have a no-hitter for 50 years, I buy in and come to town and there's a no-hitter. Draw your own conclusions."

Besides getting to celebrate his sister's birthday with Mr. Met, Maher filmed a video for fans—"Ya gotta believe."

Maher said he wasn't sure why noted Mets fan Jerry Seinfeld didn't buy a stake "because he sure has more money than I do." Seinfeld Tweeted last night, "Just spoke with financial advisor. Have decided to purchase @billmaher. ‪#gotmymindonmymoney‬"
