He convinced four people to deposit the checks and give him the cash, according to the NYPD.

Police are looking for a man they say stole almost $10,000 from ATMs at Brooklyn banks this summer after giving people fraudulent checks and convincing them to take the money out of their accounts.
NYPD officials said the first incident happened on June 22 at a Chase Bank on Fulton Street in Downtown Brooklyn. The suspect allegedly approached a 38-year-old man at an ATM and asked him to deposit a $880 check in exchange for the cash. He did so, and the suspect fled west on Fulton Street. The check later bounced, police said.
The suspect resurfaced at the same bank on July 1 and convinced a 28-year-old woman to deposit a $2,860 fraudulent check, according to officials. He once again left the scene on foot.
Police said the scheme continued on July 22, when the man persuaded a 20-year-old woman to deposit a $990 fraudulent check at a Citibank on Kings Highway in Midwood.
A fourth incident occurred one day later at a TD Bank on Court Street in Carroll Gardens, where officials said the suspect got a 23-year-old woman to give him $4,790 in cash in exchange for a fraudulent check.

No injuries were reported in any of the incidents, which all took place in the afternoon.
Police are asking anyone with information about the cases to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). People can also submit their tips on the Crime Stoppers website.
