Man found dead, woman injured, after late-night arson fire in Brooklyn

First responders discovered the dead man in a bedroom; a person of interest was taken into custody.

A 70-year-old man was found dead and a 65-year-old woman injured, after an apartment fire late Friday in Brooklyn that the NYPD says was deemed arson.
Police responded to a 9-1-1 call for smoke shortly after 11 p.m., in an apartment in the 300 block of Monroe Street.
Inside, FDNY personnel discovered the man unconscious and unresponsive in a bedroom. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The woman was treated for smoke inhalation and reported in stable condition.
The fire marshal determined the fire was set intentionally, and a person of interest was taken into custody, police said.
The Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause of the man’s death. His name has not yet been released.
