Police say the incident happened around 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Jesus Cepeda, 59, was crossing East 44th Street near Second Avenue when a 57-year-old man began reversing his 2011 Ford Escape. The car was double-parked midblock on the south side of East 44th Street, and police say the driver struck Cepeda with the rear of the vehicle, knocking him to the ground and causing him to strike his head on the pavement.
