Police said Monday they arrested a Long Island man on charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated after he allegedly struck a crash cushion on the Long Island Expressway early Sunday and a woman traveling with him was ejected from the car and died.

Around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, according to police, 24-year-old Reginald Nash, of Roosevelt, Long Island, was driving east on the expressway in a Honda Accord when he collided into the cushion — also known as a crash or impact attenuator — near the Greenpoint Avenue overpass in Queens.

Police said the Honda then spun into oncoming traffic and collided with a Toyota RAV4 being driven by a 44-year-old man, causing the Toyota to strike a Kia Telluride being driven by a 51-year-old man.

The woman ejected from the Honda was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in Manhattan, where she was pronounced dead, according to the NYPD. She was identified as 23-year-old Cameron Mency, of North Baldwin, Long Island.

Three other women who were also traveling in the car, including two 22-year-olds and a 36-year-old, were transported in critical condition to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst in Queens.

Nash and the two other drivers remained at the scene uninjured, according to police.

Attorney information for Nash was not immediately available, and police said they were still investigating the incident.
