The Port Authority says it's fixing an interlocking system installed earlier this year that's already experienced mechanical failures.

The Port Authority is reminding commuters this holiday weekend that the PATH Hoboken station is closed for “urgent” repairs through Labor Day.
The more than century-old station shuttered around midnight Thursday and is scheduled to remain closed until 5 a.m. Tuesday. During that period, the Port Authority said it will provide transit alternatives, including free shuttle buses connecting riders to Jersey City’s Newport and Exchange Place stations.
Special $3 tickets for New York Waterway ferries will also be available at the PATH/NJ Transit station and 14th Street terminals in Hoboken, offering service to Manhattan at Brookfield Place/Battery Park City and Midtown/West 39th Street. Ferries will run every 15 or 20 minutes for much of Friday, and they’ll operate between the PATH/NJ Transit and Midtown/West 39th Street terminals Saturday through Monday.
Meanwhile, NJ Transit rail service is cross-honoring PATH riders between the Hoboken, Secaucus, New York Penn and Newark Penn stations, according to the Port Authority. Riders only need to show their PATH fare cards to take NJ Transit, which is also cross-honoring customers on the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail between Hoboken, Newport and Exchange Place.
PATH’s Hoboken Station closed from 11:59 PM Thursday 8/28/25 - 5 AM Tuesday 9/2/25 for urgent repairs to the track and interlocking system.

Port Authority officials announced the Hoboken station closure earlier this month, saying they needed to repair interlocking equipment that was installed in February, when the station shut down for about a month. The equipment has experienced repeated failures over the summer, one of which caused a derailment in July.
Port Authority aimed to avoid Hoboken PATH disruptions. Now station is closing for a weekend.
