Halloween in NYC could see record-breaking heat with temps approaching high 70's

Trick-or-treaters may want to consider some lighter costumes this year as temps in New York could hit the high 70’s on Halloween night.

Thursday’s skies are forecasted to be sunny and temperatures are expected to be more than ten degrees warmer than unusual for this time of year, according to meteorologist Brian Ciemnecki from the National Weather Service.

“Some spots could even be breaking records for their high temperatures on Thursday,” Ciemnecki said.

The high temps are expected to move in as part of a warm front, propelling balmier air from the south into the New York area.

Ciemnecki said it’s not an uncommon weather pattern for this time of year, but it won’t last long.

“It just so happens that Thursday is going to be warm, and then Friday we're kind of right back into the cooler temperatures,” he said.

That’s good news for anyone running the New York Marathon on Sunday: the forecast is sunny, dry and much better for athletic endeavors with a high of 60 degrees.

Next Monday and Tuesday could bring the first real chance of rain the city has experienced in more than a month.
