Everything Will Be Totally Normal On Every Subway Line (Except The 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, A, D, E, F, J, L, M, N, Q, R, and W) This Weekend

Do you really need to take the subway this weekend? Why not try biking? Pogo-sticking? There are these things called buses...or how about walking? Have you ever tried walking? Unless you are taking the B, C, G, Z or S, you might want to consider taking up walking this weekend. But for those of you too stubborn to heed my advice, prepare your soul with all the subway weekend service changes below.

1 and 2 trains: From 9:45 p.m. Friday, May 3rd, to 5 a.m. Monday, May 6th, downtown trains will run express from 34 St-Penn Station to Chambers St due to track maintenance including tie block renewal at 28 Street. From 9:45 p.m. Friday, May 3, to 5 a.m. Monday, May 6, uptown 1 and 2 trains will skip 50th St, 59th St, and 66th St due to station cleaning and maintenance.

At all times until early 2020, 1 trains skip 168 St in both directions due to elevator replacement work (for alternate service take the A/C at/to this station). From 6:45 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, May 4th and May 5th, downtown 2 trains will run express from Wakefield-241 St to E 180 St due to Subway Action Plan related track maintenance on the southbound local track.

At all times until July 2019, Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound 2 and 5 trains will skip Winthrop St due to staircase and platform edge rehabilitation work. During this closure, for service to Winthrop St, take a Flatbush Av-bound 2/5 to Sterling St and transfer to a B44 local or B44 SBS bus to complete your trip. The station agent will issue transfer tickets upon request.

4 and 6 trains: From 9:45 p.m. Friday, May 3rd, to 5 a.m. Monday, May 6th, uptown train will run express from Grand Central-42nd St to 125th St due to station cleaning and maintenance at southbound local stations. As an alternative use a downtown 4 local or 6 train to complete your trip. Transfer at 125th St, 86th St, 59th St, or Grand Central-42 St.

5 trains: Beginning 8:30 p.m., Friday to Sunday, May 3rd to May 5th, service will end early between E 180 St and Bowling Green due to station cleaning and maintenance. As an alternative, take 2 and/or 4 trains instead.

Also: at all times until September 2019, Eastchester-Dyre Av bound trains will skip Gun Hill Rd due to station rehabilitation work. In order to accomplish the repair and reconstruction of the platforms within a safe environment, the northbound side of this station will be closed for approximately six months. For service to this station, take the 5 to Baychester Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound 5. For service from this station, take the 5 to Pelham Pkwy and transfer to an Eastchester-Dyre Av bound 5.

7 trains: Okay this is starting to get ridiculous. From 11:45 p.m. Friday, May 3rd, to 5 a.m. Monday, May 6th, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Mets-Willets Point and Flushing-Main St due to track replacement and panel installation. 7 trains will run between 34 St-Hudson Yards and Mets-Willets Point.

A trains: From 3:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4th, to 10 p.m. Sunday, May 5th, free shuttle buses will replace A trains between Euclid Av and Lefferts Blvd/Howard Beach-JFK Airport due to track maintenance including rail and plate renewal and track circuit remediation between Grant Av and Rockaway Blvd. A trains will run between Inwood-207 St and Euclid Av, and between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Far Rockaway.

D trains: From 10:45 p.m. Friday, May 3rd, to 5 a.m. Monday, May 6th, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound trains will skip 182-183 Sts, 174-175 Sts, and 170 St due to track maintenance including drain cleaning between 170 St and Bedford Park Blvd. As an alternative, use a Norwood-205 St bound D train to complete your trip.

D and N trains: Overnights from 9:45 p.m. to 5 a.m., Friday Mar 3rd to Monday May 6th, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound trains will run express from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 36 St due to track maintenance including tie block renewal between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Union St. As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound D/N local or R train to complete your trip. Transfer at 36 St or Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.

E and F trains: From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, May 4th, to 5 a.m. Monday, May 6th, trains will run local in both directions in Queens due to ongoing Queens Boulevard signal modernization work.

J trains: From 3:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4th, to 10 p.m. Sunday, May 5th, free shuttle buses and E trains will replace J trains between Broadway Junction and Jamaica Center due to track and switch replacement work near Crescent St. J trains will run between Broad St and Broadway Junction. Free shuttle buses will make all J line station stops between Broadway Junction and 121 St, and connect with the E at Jamaica-Van Wyck. (Also: at all times until summer 2019, J trains skip 111 St in both directions due station rehabilitation work.)

L trains: You know the drill. Until summer 2020, L trains will run every 20 minutes between Brooklyn and Manhattan in both directions on weeknights and weekends (assuming nothing else goes wrong with them, which...). The MTA helpfully reminds us of some of the alternative service options:

  • Enhanced subway service on 7, G and M lines on weeknights and weekends, including extended m service.
  • Enhanced bus service on 14th Street, including additional weeknight and weekend M14A bus service to Delancey/Essex St station for links to F/J/M trains.
  • A weeknight and weekend bus service, called Williamsburg Link, operates on two routes as the B92 and the B91. They connect with subway stations at Bedford Av, Metropolitan Av-Lorimer St, Marcy Av and Hewes St.
  • Free subway transfers to make connections easier between Livonia St L and Junius St 3 trains, and from Broadway G to Hewes St J/M or Lorimer St J/M.


M trains: Dear lord why won't it end!! From 10 p.m. Friday, May 3rd to 1:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4th, and from 6 a.m. Saturday, May 4 to 1:30 a.m. Monday, May 6, special M service to help accommodate customers during the L Project runs between Brooklyn and up to 96 St in Manhattan. M trains will run between Metropolitan Av and 47-50 Sts, and via the F to/from Lexington Av/63 St, and via the Q to/from 96 St.

N trains: From 6:45 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, May 4th and May 5th, free shuttle buses will replace trains between 86 St and Coney Island-Stillwell Av due to track and switch maintenance work near Coney Island-Stillwell Av. N trains will run between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and 86 St. Free shuttle buses will run between 86 St and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.

More N train: at all times until December 2019, N trains will skip Astoria Blvd in both directions due to station renewal work to add four new elevators and other accessibility features, as well as demolish and rebuild the station mezzanine with more vertical clearance to over-height vehicles traveling below the station structure.

Even more N train; at all times until summer 2019, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, and 20 Av, due to station rehabilitation work on the Sea Beach Line.

Could it be? More N train: at all times until July 2019, N trains will run local in both directions between 59 St and 36 St in Brooklyn due to structural rehabilitation work to repair and replace steel columns, lighting, ventilators, and deteriorated concrete, and perform water mitigation work to address water seepage in the express tunnel between the 59 St and 36 St stations. N trains will stop at 53 St and 45 St in both directions.

N and Q trains: From 9:45 p.m. Friday, May 3rd, to 5 a.m. Monday, May 6th, downtown trains will skip 49 St due to electrical improvements. As an alternative, use an uptown N/Q local R train to complete your trip. Transfer at Times Sq-42 St or 57 St-7Av.

Q trains: Is anyone still reading this? From 5:45 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday May 4th and Sunday May 5th, Manhattan-bound trains will run express from Kings Hwy to Prospect Park due to track replacement and duct bank construction. As an alternative, use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound q train to complete your trip. Transfer at Prospect Park, Church Av, Newkirk Plaza, or Kings Hwy.

R trains: From 9:45 p.m. Friday, May 3rd, to 5 a.m. Monday, May 6th, Bay Ridge-bound trains will run express from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 36 St due to track maintenance including tie block renewal between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Union St. As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound n or r train to complete your trip. Transfer at 36 St or Atlantic Av Barclays Ctr.

Also for R trains: From 9:45 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. Friday, May 3, and from 6 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, May 4 and May 5, downtown trains will skip 49 St due to electrical improvements. As an alternative, use an uptown N or R train to complete your trip. Transfer at Times Sq-42 St or 57 St-7Av.

W trains: Beginning 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 3rd, service will end early due to electrical improvements. Take the N or R . As a reminder, W trains do not run on weekends.
