The crash occurred at 12:30 p.m., according to police, just as the lunch hour was beginning at the restaurant chain. An employee at the location told Gothamist that "everyone is okay," and said it was still unclear what happened.

According to a spokesperson for the FDNY, five people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, while three others declined medical attention. It's unclear whether the driver was among those hospitalized.

Photos show the cab rammed halfway into the storefront at 809 9th avenue, and at least one person being wheeled away by emergency personnel.
