Early Addition: Good luck retrieving something from the MTA lost and found
Aug. 22, 2025, 10:01 a.m.
Because the MTA's inspector general did some undercover digging and didn't like what they found, here are your early links: More red envelopes of cash, New Jersey surfers, the White House called Jack White a washed-up loser and more.

Good Friday morning in New York City, where "Rio Manhattan" is bumpin’.
Here's what else is happening:
- New York Times reporters said they've witnessed other occasions where red envelopes of cash have been handed to reporters at Mayor Adams' campaign events.
- The MTA inspector general’s office said it turned in 24 "lost" items to transit workers last year and was only able to retrieve one of those items from the MTA's lost and found.
- At least one New Jersey surfer shredded during the hurricane. (It's dangerous, stay out of the water.)
- They're saying Nicolas Cage will star in "True Detective" season five, which is going to be set in Jamaica Bay.
- Good looking burritos in Fort Greene.
- After Jack White called the Oval Office's renovations "vulgar, gold leafed and gaudy," a White House spokesperson accused White of being "a washed up, has-been loser" who fails to appreciate "splendor."
- Don't expect to see the black moon this weekend, but it'll be up there.
- You know the goofballs queuing up at the pub aren't opening tabs.
- And finally, timeout:
