Hey, fellow commuters who take the 2, 3, 4, and 5 lines—you better strap in for tonight's commute home! According to NotifyNYC, "Due to a switch malfunction, expect mass transit disruptions on the 2, 3 & 4 trains between MN & BK. Also, 5 train service is suspended from Borough Hall to Flatbush Ave - Brooklyn College in both directions, BK."
@MTA what's going on with the 2,3,4,5 trains in Brooklyn this afternoon? On Friday I was stuck for 3 hours and today it has taken 1.5 hours to go a single stop.

Hey, Rachel. The last stop for 5 trains at this time will be Bowling Green while we continue to address a switch problem affecting train service in Brooklyn. ^PRN

On the train. No air flowing. Every dam train is jam packed because of the delay on the 2/3/4/5 lines going into Brooklyn, some wait times as long as 22 minutes in between.
Good luck everybody.— Darth Deadass (@sylphanne) July 22, 2019
The MTA also has a seven Tweet thread about how to get home:
Hello, everyone.
2/3/4/5 service between Manhattan and Brooklyn is disrupted because of malfunctioning switches at Franklin Av.

3 and 4 trains are running express between Utica Av and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.
For service to Kingston Av or Nostrand Av, consider taking the B45 bus from Franklin Av/St John's Pl, or taking the C train to Nostrand Av for the B44 bus. (2/7) pic.twitter.com/LzuHLlRZlB— NYCT Subway (@NYCTSubway) July 22, 2019

If you usually take a 5 train to Brooklyn, and your stop is before Franklin Av, take the 4 train. (5/7)

If you usually take a 2 or 5 train to President St or further south, take the B or Q trains.
Alternatively, take the 4 train to Franklin Av or the C train to Nostrand Av and transfer to the B44-SBS. (6/7) pic.twitter.com/Xx7Uk4W8UX— NYCT Subway (@NYCTSubway) July 22, 2019

On Friday night, the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 42nd Street Shuttle were suspended due to the MTA's computers essentially not getting the information they needed to keep things moving, stranding thousands of passengers for around 90 minutes.
City Council Speaker Corey Johnson is not very happy:
Another nightmare commute for many New Yorkers.

Update: Now the MTA really wants you to take a lettered line for the problems stated above PLUS the fact that a passenger apparently assaulted a conductor at Borough Hall:
If you're traveling between Manhattan and Brooklyn tonight, we strongly suggest that you take a lettered train.
2/3 and 4/5 service are severely disrupted by switch problems at Franklin Av and while NYPD responds to a customer who assaulted a conductor at Borough Hall. https://t.co/4wRsHsczxT pic.twitter.com/lrp4ugQUvz— NYCT Subway (@NYCTSubway) July 22, 2019
