Cooler weather continues in NYC this week before warming up again

High temperatures are forecast to be in the low- to-mid 80s through Wednesday, ahead of sweltering heat indices.

Temperatures in the New York City area will be slightly cooler this week before turning up again toward the weekend in what could be one of this season’s hottest days so far.
Tuesday and Wednesday will be dry and refreshing compared to the city’s usual swampy mid-summer weather, as temperatures will be in the low- to mid-80s, according to the National Weather Service.
But meteorologist Dave Radell said that reprieve will be short-lived because of higher heat indices expected Thursday and Friday.
“We're back to some summertime conditions here towards the end of the week with that increasing heat and humidity and more unsettled conditions,” he said.
Temperatures will climb into the 90s ahead of the weekend, with real-feel conditions possibly in the low-100s Friday, Radell said. Friday’s peak could meet or exceed that on the hottest day of the year so far — June 24, when Central Park hit 99 degrees, per the National Weather Service.
Radell said the heat will start to break Friday night, as a frontal system moves in and brings a chance of showers and potentially a thunderstorm during the day Saturday.
Humidity levels are predicted to remain elevated into the weekend, but temperatures should fall into the lower 90s. Sunday will also have a slight chance of showers.
The city’s Emergency Management agency has resources here for beating the heat, including information about local cooling centers.
