A 51-year-old man was found dead in a Trump Tower apartment this morning, and the Post reports that the deceased is Dennis Shields, the sometime boyfriend of Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel. Sources tell the tabloid he died from a drug overdose.
According to the NYPD, at around 9:19 a.m. on Friday, police officers responded to a 911 call about an unconscious male at 721 Fifth Avenue. EMS pronounced him dead at the scene. The cause of death is to be determined.
While the man's identity has not been officially confirmed, the Post claims, "Dennis Shields had asked his assistant to administer Narcan around 9 a.m., believing he was overdosing on prescription pills, sources said. But the 51-year-old lost consciousness before the medication, used to reverse opioid overdoses, kicked in. He was pronounced dead a short time later." TMZ says he overdosed on oxycodone.
Shields and Frankel knew each other for more than 20 years before starting to date in 2016. Earlier this year, Frankel told Steve Harvey, "I’ve been with someone on and off for years. It’s like a partnership where if we’re not being teammates and it’s not working and one man is down, then the other man is down. We’re trying to really kind of be good partners and be good teammates and I think relationships oddly are — and this sounds cold — but a little bit like business. If both people aren’t happy about it but slightly uncomfortable and giving up something or giving in [to] something, it doesn’t work. So both partners have to say, ‘All right, I’m in it for this.’ And I think we might be at that point, believe it or not. I haven’t said that to anyone yet."
Last month, when singer Demi Lovato overdosed, her friends allegedly had Narcan on hand and used it on her.
