2 men killed by hit-and-run driver in Sunset Park, NYPD says

The men were crossing the street when the driver of a black sedan struck them.

A driver struck and killed two men crossing the street under the Gowanus Expressway overpass early Friday in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, and then fled the scene, police said.
The driver of a black sedan was traveling south on Third Avenue around 4:20 a.m. when he hit the pedestrians at 52nd Street, according to the NYPD.
Emergency medical workers later pronounced the men dead at the scene. Police have not yet publicly identified them, and there have been no arrests.
There had been 96 traffic deaths citywide as of July 6, down from 135 by the same point last year, NYPD data shows. Roughly half of the deaths were of pedestrians in both years.
In the Brooklyn South Patrol Borough, the data shows there were 19 traffic deaths by July 6 this year, down from 27 at the same time in 2024.
