Two men were shot and killed in separate incidents in Harlem on Monday afternoon, and police said they were still searching for the shooters Tuesday.

Hamid Thomas, 32, was gunned down around 2:30 p.m. at the New York City Housing Authority’s Drew Hamilton Houses on West 142nd Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard, according to the NYPD.

He was taken to Harlem Hospital in critical condition with gunshot wounds to his abdomen and left arm and was later pronounced dead. A 40-year-old woman was also taken to the hospital in stable condition to treat a graze wound to her lower back, according to officials.

Just before 5 p.m., gunfire erupted on West 122nd Street and Malcolm X Boulevard, located about a mile-and-a-half to the south, police said. A 42-year-old man was shot multiple times in his torso and back, and officials said he was pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital.

The NYPD did not immediately release his name as they worked to notify his family.

Police had not announced arrests in either case as of Tuesday afternoon and did not have any information about potential motives or whether the shootings were related.

Gun violence in the 32nd and the 28th precincts, which encompass the parts of north and central Harlem where the shootings took place, has declined by more than 36% so far this year, according to NYPD data. The numbers of homicides in both precincts are about the same as they were at this point in 2024.

NYCHA data shows one other shooting was reported at the Drew Hamilton Houses so far this year.
