11-Year-Old Boy One Of Two Victims Wounded By Gunman In Crown Heights Thursday Night

An 11-year-old boy and a 31-year-old man were injured when the gunman opened fire.
The shooting happened last night around Lincoln Place and Schenectady Avenue, police said.
A gunman opened fire on a Crown Heights street Thursday night, leaving an 11-year-old boy and a man in his early thirties wounded.
The shooting happened around 7 p.m. near Lincoln Place and Schenectady Avenue, an NYPD spokesperson told Gothamist. Geo Primus, who works at the Food Universe store in the area, told The New York Times that the grocery store's security camera documented a man taking out a gun and firing roughly six shots at pedestrians. “It was very reckless,” Primus told the paper. “Who knows how many people could have been hurt?
During the shooting—which an onlooker described as "pandemonium"—the 11-year-old boy was shot in the chest, and a 31-year old-man was hit in the knee. Both of them were transported to Kings County Hospital and are in stable condition. Police believe that neither of them were the intended targets, and it's currently unclear who the intended targets were.
Shooting incidents are up nearly 7 percent citywide this year compared to 2018, according to NYPD data. In the 77th Precinct, where Thursday night's shooting happened, 12 people have been shot in 2019, compared to seven last year.
A man has been taken into custody for last night's shooting but no one has been charged so far this morning, an NYPD spokesperson said.
