Though the ocean's fish might disagree, as far as we're concerned New York can never have enough quality sushi. So let's all give a hearty konnichiwa to the West Village newcomer Neta.

Though the ocean's fish might disagree, as far as we're concerned New York can never have enough quality sushi. So let's all give a hearty konnichiwa to the West Village newcomer Neta, which comes from two men who, after many years at Masa and its sibling Bar Masa, really should know their sushi.

Chefs Nick Kim and Jimmy Lau are well versed in the creatures under the sea. While working as Head Chef at Bar Masa, Lau "coordinated international fish purchasing and routinely single-handedly broke down 800-lb. tuna." Which is to say, if you can afford the omakase menu ($95-$135) then by all means you should get it. Though, to be fair, there are non-sushi items worth a nibble on the menu as well. For instance, they've also got a variety of small plates on hand including razor clam risotto with soy braised veal and Chinese celery ($13) and a grilled whole scallop with uni, garlic soy butter and lime ($18). You can check out a sample menu here.

As for the decor? It is barely there. The same way that Apple showcases its products in tastefully empty stores, Neta's not-huge space is all clean lines, muted tones and hard wood. The better to focus on the fish, y'know?
