5 Tantalizing Boozy Desserts You Need To Try
May 26, 2015, 4:03 p.m.
From alcohol-topped snow cones to whiskey cake, it's all about the one-two sugar-hooch punch.
Desserts and alcoholic drinks are both wonderful on their own, but when their powers are combined you've got the potential for something transporting. There are lots of ways to get your boozy sweet tooth satisfied in this city, including these five relative newcomers on the scene. Ever think a snow cone would get you drunk? Step right this way...
HONEY WHISKEY CAKE When the taps aren't flowing during the daytime at Williamsburg's Humboldt and Jackson, the Brooklyn Baking Barons take over the space to produce their addictive honey whiskey cakes, an American version of a Tortuga rum cake soaked in whiskey. These bundt-style beauties are bursting with sweet whiskey flavor that's got just enough booze to make it count but won't leave you woozy on a work day. Partners Tony and Chris have been baking for just about a year now and have also created desserts based on things like Limoncello and a "Pirate's Painkiller," but it's their whiskey cakes that...take the cake. Grab them online in various sizes, including the individually-sized "bites."

SLOE-CONES Retro cocktail bar Branch Ofc is putting a very adult spin on a classic seaside treat: the snow cone. Instead of sugary syrups of all flavors and colors, they're doing booze-filled sugary syrups of all flavors and colors. The shaved ice cones are topped with syrups in flavors including Sloelita (Sipsmith Sloe Gin, Cherry), Hierba Buena (Mone Alban Mexcal, sweet lime, Tobasco) and Bohdi Brah (Cruzan rum, pineapple). The desserts are just $6, which is less than the price of the bar's cocktails.

TIPSY SCOOP Drowning your sorrows in a pint of ice cream seems a whole lot better when you'll get a buzz at the end of it, too. This artisanal ice cream company boasts a 5% ABV in their cream-based products, which is more booze than a Bud Light, for context—and tastes a lot better, too. Think Cake Batter Vodka Martini, Vanilla Bean Bourbon and Tequila Mexican "Hot" Chocolate flavors, plus sorbets like Raspberry Limoncello for the dairy-free set. The ice creams are thick, rich and extremely satisfying, especially with the one-two sugar-hooch punch.
Find Tipsy Scoop at Malt and Mold in Gramercy, Deppaneur and Urban Market of Williamsburg, Hops and Hocks in Bushwick and soon at the Foragers in Chelsea. You can also order online.
PALETITAS BORRACHITASLa Newyorkina has been cooling down New Yorker's parched palates with their paletas for several years now, but we weren't aware of their boozy popsicle-type treats until recently. They're offering four flavors of the frozen treats ($3) at the moment, including pina colada, white sangria and berry mojito, plus a mango margarita option that can also be made spicy.
Find the spiked paletas at the Red Hook location (61 Commerce Street) or do a custom order online.
MINT JULEP ICE CREAM The subscription based ice cream company MilkMade will be debuting a new Carroll Gardens retail shop at the end of the month, where you'll be able to sample their unique takes on ice cream without waiting on the Postal Service. For the month of May, the company debuted a Derby-inspired Tim Tam Slam flavor, which combines chocolate with a mint julep flavor for a whiskey-based scoop. They're using Mast Brothers chocolate and Chocolate Whiskey from Kings County Distillery to concoct the flavor, plus chunks of Tim Tams, chocolate wafers that are traditional to the Kentucky Derby. Sadly, this flavor is only available to subscription holders, but look out for new flavors to debut in the coming weeks.
