Hotel BPM, a new Sunset Park hotel whose name is inspired by the musical term, "beats per minute," is a new boutique hotel created by DJ BIJAL. Can't you just feel the excitement pulsating from 33rd Street? The DJ himself held a press preview Thursday night, and we were there to scope out the place, which he envisions as a "lifestyle brand" for the music loving traveler.

Because of its creator's background, music and music entertainment culture is integral to the hotel's identity. Beats will be channeled through the hotel's Bose central sound system at all hours in the public spaces. And to "take it to a whole other level," upon reservation, guests can make a song or artist request, so that your favorite tracks will be pumping through your private JBL speakers immediately after check-in. These guys aren't fooling around. But if for some reason you don't have a desire to listen to club bangers at 10 a.m., individual room music is activated through a switch in the bathroom, and each of the 76 rooms are completely soundproof. And don't worry! All music requests are honored (as long as it's in their catalogue).

To save energy and promote a green lifestyle, all the rooms are equipped with thermostats that sense your presence and adjust accordingly. And the hotel aims to take advantage of its completely arbitrarily chosen location by highlighting local establishments. Minibars will be stocked with locally sourced refreshments, and because the hotel doesn't have its own kitchen, room service amenities will come from participating eateries in the area. Room pricing is anticipated to start at a comfortable $139 for a king bed and increase if you opt for a two bed bedroom. You know, we're really starting to dig this place.

DJ Bijal doesn't expect Hotel BPM will be a nightlife destination hotspot, primarily because the only available event space is a modest bar area off of the lobby. He may eventually gain legal clearance to host parties on its roof, but until then DJ Bijal is just looking for friendship. "My personality is really projected onto this. It's fun, witty. It's who I am. We wanna be your friend. We don't want to be a hotel, we want to be your friend."

"In the words of Jay Z, 'You could be anywhere in the world tonight, but you're here with me," announced DJ Bijal. We can assure you the free booze had nothing to do with it.
