Inside Banksy's New Dystopian Theme Park, Dismaland

Banksy has created his own theme park, called Dismaland, which will soon be open for business through September 27th. Sadly, visiting the dystopian landscape of broken dreams will cost those of us stateside a plane ticket to Weston-super-Mare in the UK.

Upon arrival, you'll be greeted by a distorted Ariel, our old friend the Grim Reaper, and the promise of more disappointment around every fallen piece of rubble. In fact, the bemusement park's motto is: "The UK's most disappointing new visitor attraction!" Also promised are "uneven floor surfaces, extensive use of strobe lighting, imagery unsuitable for small children, and swearing."

Colossal got a look inside, and notes there are "general themes of apocalypse, anti-consumerism, and anti-corporate messages," which is classic Banksy, but you'll also find work from around 50 other artists, including Damien Hirst, Bill Barminski, Caitlin Cherry, and Espo. The website, which has been up and down since Banksy launched it today, describes Dismaland as "a festival of art, amusements and entry-level anarchism."

The official opening is August 22nd (11 a.m. to 11 p.m.), and admission is £3. Tickets for time slots must be purchased for guaranteed entry. They ask that you refrain from bringing spray paint, marker pens, knives and legal representatives of the Walt Disney Corporation.
