Bruce Springsteen Extending Solo Broadway Residency Through February 2018

Did you snag tickets to see Bruce Springsteen during his eight week residency on Broadway this fall? Unless your name is Mr./Mrs. Scalper Bot, most likely you did not. But good news: The Boss has added 10 additional weeks worth of shows stretching into early February 2018. So now you get another chance to get your hopes up only to lose out on tickets to scalpers! Yay!

Springsteen on Broadway, an intimate solo show featuring The Boss playing songs and telling stories, will kick off on October 3rd at the Walter Kerr Theater (which has a capacity of just under 1,000). It was originally supposed to run through November 26th with Springsteen playing five shows a week—but now the show will go on through February 3rd.

Tickets went onsale today through Ticketmaster Verified Fan, which was supposed to help cut down on the number of scalpers and bots that could get to tickets—fans were forced to pre-register to enter the online lottery. As we've all seen today, it didn't quite work out as Ticketmaster planned, with tickets already showing up on Stubhub for $9,000 a piece.

Some outlets have assumed that Springsteen added the extra shows to curb scalpers, but that makes no sense. Clearly they were always planning to add these new dates and had already worked out a deal with the theater. More importantly, there's no indication that anything will change about the ticket buying process, so scalpers will most likely once again snag as many as they can and re-sell them for exorbitant prices.

Hopefully, Bruce will take my advice and go on a door-to-door tour of the country playing every living room in America until he can no longer remember the words to "Thunder Road." Or just do NYC/NJ area. Or bring back in person purchasing. Or at least come over to my apartment and perform all of Nebraska.
